St Mary’s is a Church of England infant school for children aged 4 to 7, situated in the heart of Witney and part of the Oxford Diocesan Schools Trust. We are proud to be the place where our youngest children begin their educational journey.

Our Christian vision, ‘Together we love to learn and learn to love’, is reflected in the way we support children to become confident and curious learners, this taught alongside our values of friendship, respect and perseverance.

We have high expectations for every child and provide an ambitious, well-sequenced curriculum that builds knowledge and skills progressively from Reception onwards. We place particular importance on developing strong foundations in early reading, phonics, writing and mathematics, while providing children with a broad range of experiences that encourage curiosity and a love of learning.

Our aim is for every child to make good progress from their individual starting point and to leave St Mary’s well-prepared for the next stage of their education.  Pupils achieve well, and our curriculum is carefully designed to build learning in clear, manageable steps.

We believe that children learn best when they feel safe and valued. Our staff develop positive relationships with children and families, and we work closely with parents and carers throughout these important first years of school. We want children to enjoy school, become confident and independent learners, and develop the knowledge and skills they need for the next stage of their education.

The Batt Church of England Primary School and St Mary’s CE Infant School work closely together. Reception and Year 1 classes from both schools are based at the St Mary’s site on Church Green, while children from Year 2 onwards are educated at The Batt site.
